On behalf of AYSO United in Arizona, it gives me great pleasure to nominate John Muskett for the National Coach of the Year.
Coach Muskett came to United three years ago and brought his 2011 girls recreation team. He was excited to come to United because the values of our club were in line with his own. Coach Muskett immediately embraced our philosophy of coaching training sessions and managing the performance environment. He encouraged his players to work towards self-improvement and also sought ways to improve himself as a coach. He asked for and accepted feedback about new strategies for coaching matches and leading the individual players on the team. What has helped in his successes on the field are due to his overall leadership and his ability to communicate to players and parents his expectations for leading the team. Coach Muskett’s team started in the Open League, a developmental division within our state organization. The team was quickly promoted to the Champions Division and at the end of last year, promoted again to the State League II Division, where they are currently undefeated. While with AYSO United, Coach Muskett obtained his USSF Grassroots and D licenses. Coach Muskett is eager to obtain his USSF C license with the National AYSO United training staff. The impact Coach Muskett has had on his players is significant. Two of his players independently submitted nominations for this award. One of his players wrote:
“Coach John will give us individual advice and advice for our position groups. He has told me to shoot faster or more before, then I score thanks to him. He makes all of my teammates and me the best people and players we can be. Every season, he sets a goal for our team and works his hardest to help us get there.” See our website for the full bio on Coach John!
